We must have not had enough adventure and exploring on Friday night because Saturday we set out to see what we could see in the San Rafael Swell. We had been one time previous but it is so huge there is so much to see and do. I must admit that we learned our lesson and have decided to only visit in the fall or spring because it was much MUCH too HOT!!! We almost melted!
The first place we stopped was the Buckhorn Wash. It had pictograph on the red rock walls.

Next time we come we also want to come first thing in the morning or evening when the shadow is better for viewing the pictographs.
Ty was too hot standing in the sun looking at the pictographs, he much rather sit in the shade and play with dirt and rocks!
Next we went to the San Rafael swinging bridge. It used to be used for the bridge to drive across the river. Now there is a new overpass but it is still pretty neat to see.

A closeup of Caleb! He wanted to get right at the edge of the cliff and throw rocks in the water! He has no fear of jumping in the river below!
We sat and threw rocks down below into the river. The kids couldn't find any good size rocks so they would take handfuls of tiny rocks & dirt an throw it!
It really was a neat little place to explore!
Next we went out in the middle of no-where to explore the wide open-vast-desert! Nate loves to pave his own trail, bushwack through the unknown, and see things that others have not!!! So that is what we did somewhere in the middle of the San Rafael Swell!! Boy was it HOT!
Ty is such a good hikin' boy! It is so fun to hike with kids and talk about things and teach them about nature. On this hike we hiked through a long canyon. When we yelled something we heard our echo and the kids thought that was so funny! They kept yelling and hearing their echo.
Mara tried finding shade as much as she could to stop and take a rest! Did I mention we ran out of water and were all thirsty and hot?!
We found a cave which the kids wanted to go inside and explore, we didn't think that was such a great idea, but it was cool to see!

The Swell is awesome! I am glad you guys went to see it! We went in October last year, and it was just right that day. It can get pretty warm out there I am sure!
I would like to go there in the fall. It looks so interesting.
Too hot for me in the summer.
