The Heard Museum & Scottsdale

Yeah!! We finally made it to Phoenix! The storm wasn't too bad, but it was weird to see a snow storm in the desert! Snow was covering all the cactus and it didn't seem like we were really in Arizona! But once we got to Phoenix there wasn't snow just a little rain. I was worried we were going to have terrible weather all week but really it was perfect! It warmed right up and was beautiful!

First Stop: Heard Museum! We walked around the grounds of the museum waiting for it to open. The Heard Museum is a Native American museum as well as a Fine Art museum. It was pretty impressive with all the different Indian artifacts and historical items but it also had great hands on for the kids!

Seeing all the desert landscapes and cacti made me want to do a desert landscape in my yard!

They had a wonderful children's section in the museum for kids to do arts and crafts. We didn't take many pictures in the museum a) because we were too busy with our hands doing crafts, b) because pictures weren't allowed in parts of the museum!

Ty loved the flannel board! He spent a lot of time taking all of the Eskimos off the wall and putting them all on again!

It was a little chilly after we got out of the museum and we thought we could let the kids play at the park and have a picnic! But no sooner did we get out the cooler and lunch stuff it started pouring rain and we had to make a run for the car and have a picnic in the van with the heater on full blast! The storm didn't last long and by the time we were done eating it was just sprinkling!

Next Stop: Scottsdale, what a cool place! A little suburb of Phoenix, an old downtown area with stores and shops! It kind of had a Jackson Hole feel to it. It was a fun place to look around and explore!

On one of the corners they had these giant statues the kids couldn't help but climb in and on!

We enjoyed the sunshine and nice weather again! It cleared up and was nice while we walked the streets of Scottsdale.

Mara really liked this cactus garden and wanted to take a picture of it!

Let the fun begin! After walking around Scottsdale we headed to our hotel where we would be staying the next five nights!!
