I have to make a confession: I really don't like ends of bread! I will occasionally eat a piece for toast, or sometimes I'll put cut up pieces on chicken divan or make stuffing--but really I prefer to eat the soft yummy middle part of the bread. I am too frugal to throw them out, so I keep them in a bag in the freezer! Well today I thought it would be fun to take my kids to the beach and feed the seagulls--bingo: perfect use of bread ends! My second confession: I really don't like big birds! (Small yellow canaries--I have no problem with) but bigger birds--not really a fan! I don't like the sound of flapping wings, I'm worried they are going to poop on my head, and have you ever taken a good look at their feet: scary! But I'll do almost anything for my kids so we went went to Happy Camp beach and had a marvelous time feeding the birds! When we started there was only one lonely little seagull--as soon as we threw the first piece of bread there was an entire flock! It was so funny to watch the two kids throwing the pieces of bread--Ty liked to throw it as high in the air as he could and watch them catch it in mid flight! Mara liked throwing big hunks of bread and watch two seagulls fight over it! But Mara's favorite part of course was chasing the seagulls! She loves to chase the birds on the beach!

I like the thought of sharing bread ends with the birds. I am not a fan either, except Nate taught me they are good toasted with butter and honey.
It is nice to know they were not wasted and that you could all have such a great day with a sack of dry bread ends.
This week has been so good for you!
I want to play in the tide pools.
On you tide pool map, when will the tide be low this fall?
If only our little man could run and we had a beach like you, I think chasing birds would be Garrett's favorite thing to do too! That kid loves birds! Maybe one day soon we can join in the fun! We try and feed to ducks that are close to us, but I think they are over fed because they fly away when we come! We did have some unlikely visitors in our garage the other day....two ducks looking for some fun! Good thing I had some hard rolls to feed them! It sure would have been more fun to do it someplace more beautiful than a garage though! :)
