The Forestry Center

On Wednesday we went with Amber, Kase & Grant to the Tillamook Forestry Center. It is an awesome place to visit and our first time going. It is part of the State Forest so it's different than Nate's forest since he is the US Forest Service (that is very confusing for people around here!) The Forestry Center is about twenty miles East of here and it's all hands on learning about the forest. We watched an amazing video on forest fires and the special effects were pretty awesome--a part in the movie actually made the room smell like smoke so you felt like you were part of the fire. Nate's been pretty excited about maybe having an opportunity this summer to go fight a forest fire. After watching that movie however I am a little nervous about letting him go! But it's kind of been a dream for him so if he gets the chance he'll probably take it! You Go Nate!!
We were able to climb to the top of the fire tower, even little Mara Lew walked every step to the top! The fire towers we have seen in Pennsylvania and Indiana didn't have anything at the top, it was just a place to view the forest. This one however had an actual room we could go into and inside we saw where the watchmen would live. There was a bed, and kitchen supplies, and radio controls. It was pretty neat.
We had a nice little picnic lunch and after went for a hike. The kids were getting a little tired, it was getting close to nap time, but we huffed it through the forest along the river and we all had a great time being in the forest.
