Many people refer to preparing for a new baby as 'nesting syndrome'. I have to disagree with this term! I think any smart pregnant woman realizes she can do more with the baby in than out and will do all things possible to get what ever she needs done before the baby arrives!! Such was the case in my house! Instead of painting the nursery and getting the baby's room ready I had a different room to get ready: The boys' room!!
We decided to move Caleb downstairs with Ty and put the new baby in Caleb's room. Caleb was so excited about this and Ty was happy to have a buddy with him in his room. The problem was Ty's room needed a little work! It had old wallpaper, the closet needed to be painted, and if you ask Nate the real 'eyesore' of the room was the false ceiling!!
This is Ty's room before. I did not like the wallpaper--it definitely needed some updating! The white walls underneath were desperate for spackle and paint.
I'm not sure if Ty's closet has ever been painted before! It was the worst part of the room with black marks on the walls, and goose-sticky paper shelves!
I decided to take on this project myself! I didn't realize how much work
it was really going to be until I started ripping down the wallpaper and it was not easy! The wallpaper did not want
to come off beecause the walls had not been painted underneath so it
ripped off clear to the wallboard. Then I had to spackle all the walls.
I was pretty determined to get this bedroom finished and decided I would have it completed while Nate was at scout camp! (I like to surprise him with projects when he leaves me!!) I could do the painting but I just wasn't capable of hanging a new ceiling! I called a handyman and asked if there was any way he could come hang a ceiling that week and he was willing to fit it in and work on it in the evening. I also asked my handyman to texture the walls because my job that I had done just didn't look great!
Flashback:
This may look like Caleb--but it is actually Ty!! Five years ago Grandma Lewis came out to Pennsylvania and helped me sew a quilt for Ty's big boy bed! I decided that the boys needed matching quilts on their bunk beds, so not only was I trying to finish the bedroom I was also trying to get a quilt all sewn!
With a lot of help from Grandma Lewis I was able to finish the boys'
bedroom and the quilt! Grandma Lewis came down for a few days and sewed
up a storm! She sewed all day and night until it was finished! She also
helped me paint the bedroom! Thanks for all the help Grandma Lewis! I
couldn't have done it without you!
The finished room!! The walls look gray but they are actually a perfect shade of green! I think for the first time (at least in this house) I loved the color the first time I rolled it on the wall! I didn't have to go back to the paint store and have it adjusted! The room wasn't all finished when Nate got home, the contractors had to finish texturing the walls, but he was pleased with the work they did and was happy to have it done and look good!
The closet looks messy, but it's actually quite organized--it just has lots of boys' toys in it!
The new room is great! I love how it turned out! We went for an outdoor-forest-Smokey Bear themed bedroom!! Caleb was so excited to move downstairs! He started bring down his clothes one or two hangers at a time until everything was brought down! He had a big smile on his face every time he came down! Caleb sleeps great downstairs and feels like a big boy being with his big brother! Now that the room is done we are ready for our baby brother to come!!
