The Perfect Tree!

This year we hiked (literally) hiked through the woods in search for a perfect Christmas tree! There is just something about hiking through the cold, snowy, winter wonderland and searching for the perfect tree that our family just loves!! Call us crazy...and year after year I wonder why we still do it! But it is fun!
F.U.N!

I remember one of my best friends doing this tradition with her family growing up and I always thought it sounded like the coolest experience ever! It is cool...freezing dang cold really! Just ask little Mara Lew!

Somehow her snow pants didn't end up in the car! And let's just say when we got done she was one cold little sweetie! We didn't think there would be much snow up there in the forest! There was not any snow down at our house! Always be prepared! Right?!

Here is one darling little snow buddy! He had a blast in the snow! Too bad his little legs just couldn't keep up with the rest of us! He had to be carried a few times just so we could make it up the mountain! It's a lot different hiking in the snow with snow gear on vs. hiking in the summer in warmth and t-shirts!!

And T-Y has no sense of cold! He could have stayed out the entire day and night and not felt cold!! He just loves playing in the snow! And notice the stick! I think I've said this before: Ty loves sticks!

Nothing says winter and playing in the snow more than a snow-angel! And that's really what my kids are: angels!! I just love them!

So the rest of the story for finding our tree:
We hike a mile or more up this snowy hill. We search and search and search.....and finally find one great tree! But we decided maybe there would be a better tree somewhere else...so we keep hiking and searching and searching and hiking and we can't find anything better than we found before. By this time Caleb and Mara are freezing cold, I've been carrying one or the other off and on so I'm tired and cold! We decide to go back to the tree we liked in the first place except we couldn't remember where it was! (After a while all the trees and scenery looks the same!) We pass it...turn around and find it!
"Let's just cut it down and go!" I said!

Nate cuts down the Christmas tree and starts dragging it down the mountain. We are all ready to be back at the car and start drinking hot chocolate and sit on nice hot seat warmers (except Ty who is still having a fun time playing in the snow!) Caleb starts getting tired and needs a ride. Mara is cold and wants to be held. So Nate puts Caleb on his shoulders and holds him with one hand and drags the tree behind him with the other hand! I hold Mara and carry her down to the car. Nate asks Ty to carry the bow-saw down the mountain to the car.

We finally make it safe and sound to the car and drive home! Only to discover our power is out and has been for the past three hours! (Glad we were outside freezing cold and not in our house freezing cold!) Luckily for us the church power was on and they just happen to be serving an Elder's Quorum dinner that night! So we rush over and enjoy a warm meal and company of good friends!

When it was time to put the tree up Nate went to get his bow-saw from the car to cut the bottom of the tree off to fit on the stand. He couldn't find the saw anywhere. He had asked Ty to carry it because he was carrying Caleb and the tree so he asked Ty where his saw was. Uhhhh....well...."I accidentally left it on the mountain." With his haste to play in the snow by the car Ty left the saw up on the mountain! There was no way we could go get it in the snow and we probably wouldn't have been able to find it. So Ty quickly grabbed a paper and pencil and began to write:
"Dear Santa, I want a bow-saw for Christmas for my dad. I accidentally left it on the mountain. So can I have one? From Ty"
Smart kid! He decided to turn to Santa in his time of need to help him get a bow-saw for his dad! I guess we'll see what Santa brings him for Christmas!

After all that experience here it is: Our perfect Christmas tree! By next year at this time the memories of the cold and freezing temperatures will have been forgotten and we will probably find ourselves hiking through the snow looking for another Christmas tree!
