Ginger Bread Houses!

There is just something about decorating gingerbread houses that reminds me of two things: Christmas traditions and my family!! We did this every year and we still do! So I decided that not only would I do it with my own kids, but I would decorate candy houses with my after school 4-H kids! I thought it was a good idea to do a practice round with Ty, Mara, and Caleb before I did this project with a dozen kids!

I tried something new this year: I bought a gingerbread kit from the store to see how I like it! Not very much! Two thumbs down! They were hard to construct and the candy was too tiny! But Mara did a great job on her house!

And Caleb wanted to do his house all by himself! I helped just a little bit with the construction he did the decorating. I think more candy ended up in his tummy than on his house!

I love Ty's jelly-bean fence and his icicles hanging down on his house! Two best buddies!

And here is Caleb's finished product! Not bad for a two-year old!

Ty's house turned out great too! Had we had more time he probably would have done even more!

Mara's church is cute!! It was a fun family project!

As for my after-school activity with my 4-H kids...it went pretty well! Kind of hectic trying to do it with so many kids but I think they had a fun time. I decided to use graham crackers, a little milk, jug, and royal frosting. It worked a little better for this group! It's interesting to see the kids' creativity! Some kids really got into it, others didn't really want to add a lot of decoration.
