Fall Break 2014: Canyonlands!!

I LOVE fall break!! I love going camping for fall break! It's become one of our family traditions! It's always sad that it has to be our last camping trip of the season! We have to wait six long months of winter before we can go on another camping trip for spring break! We headed south for spring break to Moab and enjoyed beautiful warm sunny weather, hiking, and being a family!

Funny story: as we were driving down to Moab, Nate and I were making sure we had everything we needed. Going over the lists again in our minds...turns out we forgot a number of things: my socks, Ty's pajamas (he wore mine and yup, I slept in my unders!), our itinerary, we thought we even forgot the tent poles but come to find out they were in the car after all!! So needless to say, although we forgot a few things it turned out fine!

Although Nate and I have been to Canyonlands twelve or so years ago this is the first time for the kids!
Canyonlands has three sections to the park, we spent all our time in just one of the sections: Island in the sky.

Carder loved posing for the camera and having pictures taken of himself!

After lunch we went for a hike, I think it was called White Rim View trail. It was awesome!

Caleb loves hiking, he never complains and doesn't even have to be carried! He's getting so big!

Every time we visit a new place or see a National Park I am always astonished at the beauty and magnificence of God's creations!

Just enjoying the view from the cliff!

Although I've been here several years ago, we went to a different area and this was all new to me!

Ty just loves being in nature! He especially loves exploring all the red rocks like his dad.

I'm already ready to go back!

The weather was absoutely perfect! We could not have asked for better! It wasn't too hot or too cold!

Not sure what that pose is but whatever!

That is a lovely bolder!

It was a lot of fun exploring around the red rocks.

Me and my hiking buddy Carder!

Ty holding up a rock!

Looks like he is jumping off the cliff huh!?

Caleb on top of the world of Canyonlands!

 Spectacular views.

Wish we could have stayed longer! Three days just isn't enough!

Time to hike back and go on a different trail!

Ty just seeing what he could see with the binoculars!

We stopped at every viewpoint to get a good look!

Then it was nap time! While Carder took a good nap in the car we drove around and saw all we could.

Next hike: Grand View Point Trail

This was our favorite hike here.

It was 2 miles and we hit it at the perfect time of day.

It went right along the rim and looked down into the canyons below.

The kids tried jumping off the cliff a couple times!

Mara's turn to go for a leap!

Since everyone else is Caleb should try also!

Another silly pose for Mara Lew!

These are my favorite and I always giggle when Nate says "Pretend you are hiking, now stop, slow down, take a few steps back..!!"

Caleb's favorite part of this hike he said was taking all the pictures!

I just love hiking with my little hiking buddy! I know he would much rather hike on his own we sure get done quicker when he goes for a ride!

Caleb found a fun rock to climb through.

This would be a very fun place to play hide and seek!

We loved all the fun rock formations.

Super Mara holding up a gigantic rock!

Mara needed a little push from behind from Caleb!

We made it to the end! The view was great!

Definitely got my workout this trip!

Little Caleb taking a picture of us...love his silhouette at the bottom!

Made it to the top!

 Don't fall Ty!

Carder had some hiking time to stretch his legs!

Love cuddling with this boy! I know it's not long when he will be too big to snuggle in the ergo!

 Our little rock climber!

A hiking we will go!

Super cool! Loved every minute here!

Look at those Jr. Ranger kids working so hard to earn their Jr. Ranger badge!  And Carder has 'B' and is good to go!

We stayed until the sun went down and we watched the sunset as we drove out of the park.

We headed back to camp. We stayed in the BLM sights along the river in Moab. It was a very busy weekend down there and camping spots were hard to find. We had a lot of fun sitting around the camp fire talking and laughing. We played a fun game called "3 truths and a lie" We had to say three things about us that were true and one thing that was not true and we had to guess what the lie was. We laughed and laughed over this game! It was so funny to hear some of the things the kids came up with, and they had no idea what our truths and lies were! Such fun memories! Grateful for these family opportunities we have to strengthen our relationships and bonds with one another!
